Thebes, a jewel in Boeotia's embrace,
Where Greece's heart beats in this sacred place.
Here, Dionysus' wine brings life to delight,
And Amphion's music builds walls strong and bright.
Yet all that prospers must one day fall,
Each tragedy a prelude to decline's call.
And as this glorious city fades from sight,
Can we find in its ruins a guiding light?
