The inspiration for this project came from one of my personality traits - I cry easily. I have often been bothered by the fact that I cry easily before, so I started some research on my own, and finally realized that this is not necessarily a negative thing. Tears can express and release people's emotions, and as a unique human emotion, I think they are very precious. So through my paintings I wanted to express this theme and give inspiration to people who, like me, cry easily but find it disturbing to realize that tears can be a good thing. In addition, in these paintings, I used both pastel and colour pencils to describe richer colors and delicate emotions.
The inspiration for this picture book comes from my personal experiences and my exploration of self-identity. From a young age, the birthmark on my hand has accompanied my growth, and I have encountered a variety of reactions—some with curiosity and admiration, others with misunderstanding or prejudice. These experiences have made me feel both unique and have led me to reflect deeply on how external judgments shape our self-perception. Throughout the creative process, I revisited the journey of my birthmark, from its unchanged form to its evolving nature, and infused these emotions into both the illustrations and the narrative. Through this work, I tell a story of accepting, appreciating, and embracing one’s individuality. This is not only my personal story but also an invitation for the audience to reflect on diversity and engage in a gentle conversation with their own unique traits.
In public spaces, I often feel the urge to escape or experience anxiety. However, when I put on noise-canceling headphones, these symptoms ease. This led me to reflect on how objects can evoke specific emotions, often tied to memories or relationships.
This project explores the preservation of traditional Chinese culture through textile art. By extracting visual elements from regional architecture, patterns, and colors, and integrating them with handcraft techniques like embroidery and collage, I aim to reinterpret and celebrate these fading traditions. Through this work, I hope to raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding our cultural heritage in a rapidly modernizing world.
