This graphic novel tells the story of a small-town teenager chasing his dream of e-sports. As a new industry, e-sports is gradually being formalised, its commercial value is growing by leaps and bounds, and more and more young people are making it their career goal to become e-sports players. However, this seemingly booming industry has a lot of immaturity, unstable operation and management, short career, high incidence of occupational diseases and employment problems after retirement... Mainstream media rarely mention these drawbacks in order to cater to capital, instead encouraging young people to pursue their gaming dreams. Therefore, through this project, I hope to guide people to look at this industry critically, and at the same time influence people to push for the maturity of the industry.
The inspiration for this project came from a conflict between a pair of friends around me. Both of them insisted on their own right and did not consider the issue from each other's perspective, which ultimately led to the breakdown of their relationship. I adapted the experiences of two of my friends and designed a story that readers can choose from. In the story, after two people argue, one of them comes to confide in the reader, and the reader plays the role of a listener and persuader. They need to search for clues in the characters' stories, think from different perspectives, choose appropriate answers, and ultimately lead the story to three different endings. I hope that through this story, readers can experience the importance of empathy and the preciousness and fragility of relationships.
This is a story about hometown. With the urbanization of China, the concept of hometown is becoming more and more vague for the younger generation of Chinese. The long distance and rapid changes make young people's feelings for their hometown weaker and weaker.
This project was inspired by my grandfather's love story. After losing my grandmother, he found a new partner, but their relationship faced judgment and lacked support. He rarely expressed his happiness openly, which made me realize how challenging love can be for older adults.
