My artwork is structured along a timeline, using three paintings to explore humanity's pursuit of immortality and its resulting societal issues. It examines themes of ancient ignorance, modern dark trades driven by technology and capitalism, and future class divisions under capitalist monopolies. Through satire and reflection, the work critiques the distortions caused by this obsession, conveying a sense of reverence and rational contemplation toward the value of life.
Is nature the only victim of humanity's excessive exploitation? Not at all. Humans live amidst the ruins of capitalism, where all economic value is repeatedly extracted. This includes not only natural resources but also the entire industrial chain and cheap labor that are intertwined with these resources. Humanity will not face extinction only after natural resources are depleted; rather, humans cannot remain unaffected throughout this process.
From the perspective of "future archaeology," I created a series of illustrations simulating fossils. These works narrate the process of both natural resources and the humans exploited alongside them by capitalism heading towards extinction.
This project originated from a conversation I had with a friend about a life-threatening sport he had tried—skydiving. Through his vivid descriptions, I deeply felt the complex emotions he experienced, from takeoff to floating in the air, and finally landing. It was the first time I truly recognized the preciousness of life. Reflecting on how people have become more appreciative of life and each other after the pandemic, we discussed how best to make every day meaningful. How much time and effort do we dedicate to a single pursuit in a lifetime?
In this project, I spent nearly a month, observing a street in my hometown, documenting the lives of people through a series of sketches. This process expanded my curiosity and captured different aspects of street life. The work is presented from four perspectives, using mapping and zine formats to illustrate how, in today's fast-paced society, people have become less aware of their surroundings. The project encourages exploring unnoticed details and emotions in daily life, fostering a deeper understanding of each other.
