Fear is one of the most basic, intense and complex of human emotions, and I struggle with phobias in my daily life, especially in my childhood when I suffered from a very severe arachnophobia. Through interviews with different other people, I realized that people have very different, or niche, or mass, or even very nonsensical fears, and that only the people involved can understand where such fears come from, and that fear is a universal emotion that exists in the heart of almost everyone. Therefore, by showing everyone's fears in the form of animation, I am also making a breakthrough and challenging my person to face my inner fears head on.
How to recognize a witch? In medieval times, this was a topic that made all women feel insecure. In fact, even today, the shadow of witch hunts never goes away and society never stops regulating women. Every woman who looks in the mirror could be considered a witch.
In modern society, where material things are abundant but human relationships are indifferent, many people have weak ties to society and die unnoticed. Based on the elements of the story of the snake and loneliness, I created illustrations about this kind of marginalized people with melancholic blue tones and the image of a bird. I hope that society will respect individual lives more and care for the disadvantaged.
The rise of individualism, the empowerment of women, urban development, and the extension of human lifespan have all contributed to the trend of living alone. The author of "The Singles Society" predicts that "living alone is the ultimate direction of human society." However, this refers not only to those who choose to be single by choice but also to a large number of left-behind children and elderly people who are passively single. The lifestyle of living alone is becoming prevalent, yet it is rarely discussed. In this project, I personally observed and understood the solitary lives of people of different ages, documenting their lives in the form of a zine.
This project is meant to commemorate my recently deceased budgerigar and to thank her for teaching me to bravely face the departure from life.
