I chose to explore this project because of my deep interest in the concept of hedonism. As l grow older and myknowledge expands, l gradually realize that the experience brought by hedonism is dualistic. This phenomenon islike a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it can provide short-term pleasure, but on the other hand, it triggers adeep reflection on its inner meaning and consequences. l realized that this philosophical thought may provide atheoretical explanation for my understanding of the formation mechanism of daily behavior patterns, the motivations behind behavioral choices, and my personalunderstanding of happiness. By studying the core concept of hedonism, l hope to compare and reflect on it withmy own attitude towards life, and explore this issue from a critical perspective: hould we use hedonism as anattitude to guide our lives? And in the context of contemporary society, does hedonism have adaptability and universal value?
As a child growing up in Chinese society, l have experienced training classes likeother children. However, too many training classes will only make people breathless, just like a giant hand trying to shape people in the direction they want. Therefore,I think of genetically modifed plants, which are also controlled to change theiroriginal natural posture and are forced to add other genes of animals and plants. From this, l expand my idea and design a training institution that specializes inusing genetically modifed children to make them "grow" smoothly to satirize thisphenomenon.
I got inspiration for this project from the movie
Raise the Red Lantern. Desire is the driving force
of people's actions, but too much desire will affect
people's normal life. In the end, unrestrained
desire may destroy a person. I converted my un-derstanding into another form of expression and
put it in the installation. The accumulation of too
much desire caused the installation to stagnate,
and finally made it a piece of waste with a seem-
ingly beautiful appearance.
The project draws a short story in the form of a picture
scroll, with a total of 7 pages, telling the story of the
protagonist's journey from entering a small town to
straying into the environment and disappearing. I got
inspiration from researching traditional Chinese myths
and stories, and used cultural conflicts as hidden
themes in my paintings. I wanted to express the fear
and even demonization of unknown cultures when
people face them, and create conflicts through the dif
ferent perceptions of the protagonist and the closed
town in the story. At the same time, I tried to give the
whole story a touch of Chinese horror, making it more
like a supernatural story.
