This project, situated within Tsinghua University’s campus, responds to the contrasting characteristics of its site with a dual-sided organizational approach. The west side, facing natural landscapes, features a series of stacked large-box volumes to accommodate spacious studio needs, creating a connection with the surroundings. In contrast, the east side, facing the street, showcases an innovative and dynamic façade design that engages with the campus environment.
The project is situated in the Victoria Market of Melbourne, Australia. Lying in the transition part of the downtown in the city, the project is aiming to reconstruct and renovate the block of victoria market, with some of the historical buildings and the block temperament remained. The basic strategy is to construct an addition building on the top of the existing building and follow the fundamental type of the market but adding more novel cladding and framing system to re-introduce the creativity and vitality.
This project is about renovating the area enclosed by the city wall from the Ming dynasty in Nanjing. I continued and extended the nature of city walls – dividing, linking, and walking (patrolling) on top, and then expanded specific nodes into activity places for more up-to-date needs. During this process, the old and new elements were laminated into the same dimension of time, participating in communal activities collaboratively
The project focused on the contrasts and tensions within social elements. In China, the rapid pace of urbanization has led to the simultaneous decline of traditional settlement forms and diversity. Traditional interpersonal relationship models often feel out of place in urban settings. The site of the project, Chongqing, China, is renowned for its vertical complexity and spatial richness, presenting a unique opportunity to explore the interaction between old and new elements.
